Driving Directions to Whistler
Vancouver Airport (YVR) to Whistler
- Drive east out of the airport on Grant McConachie Way
- Follow the Hwy 99 North signs over the Arthur Lang Bridge onto Granville Street
- Follow Granville Street north crossing the Granville Street Bridge
- Shift to the far right lane of the bridge and take the Seymour Street exit
- Follow Seymour Street north until Georgia Street
- Turn left onto Georgia Street
- Georgia Street takes you through Vancouver's lovely downtown core heading west, through Stanley Park (so pretty!) and over the majestic Lions Gate bridge
- Exit the bridge on the Marine Drive West turnoff, stay in the left lanes and follow the signs to Whistler
- Take the first right onto Taylor Way
- Travel up the hill and turn left onto Highway 1 West
- Follow the signs and take Exit 2 (just before the ferry terminal) to Whistler Hwy 99
- Hwy 99 hugs the mountainsides of Howe Sound passing the communities of Lions Bay, Britannia Beach, Squamish and Brackendale before entering Whistler
Seattle To Whistler
Seattle to Whistler is about a 5 hour drive.
The drive from Seattle to Vancouver is about 176 kilometres (100 miles) and takes about 3 hours; it depends on delays at the Douglas Border Crossing (US-Canada border). The Vancouver to Whistler drive makes up the final 2 hours.
There are two routes from the US-Canada border to Whistler.
Quick Route
This route avoids the city and follows major highways.
- Take Exit 275 off I-5 before arriving at the Douglas Border Crossing
- Follow the Pacific Highway (known as 176th Street or Hwy 15) through Surrey
- Follow the Pacific Highway over the Cloverdale Bypass to Hwy 1 (Trans Canada Highway)
- Exit onto Hwy 1 travelling west
- Follow the Hwy 1 out of Surrey and over the Port-Mann Bridge
- Hwy 1 passes Port Coquitlam, Burnaby, and East Vancouver
- Follow Hwy 1 over the Second Narrows Bridge through North & West Vancouver
- Take Exit 2 (just before the ferry termial) right onto Hwy 99 ( Sea to Sky Highway)
- Follow Hwy 99 through Squamish and onto Whistler
Scenic Route
This route follows major streets through Vancouver and is more scenic.
- Once past the Douglas Border crossing I-5 becomes Highway 99
- Follow Hwy 99 north through the Massey Tunnel and over the Oak Street Bridge
- Hwy 99 becomes Oak Street after crossing the Oak Street Bridge
- The cross streets will be numbered in descending order from 73rd Avenue down (you are still heading north)
- Turn left at 41st Avenue & Oak Street and travel west until Granville Street - the next major intersection
- Turn right and head north on Granville Street
- Cross the Granville Street Bridge and shift to the far right lane
- Take the Seymour Street exit from the Granville Street Bridge
- Follow Seymour Street north until Georgia Street
- Turn left onto Georgia Street
- Georgia Street takes you through our lovely downtown core heading west, through Stanley Park (so pretty!) and over the majestic Lions Gate bridge
- Exit the bridge on the Marine Drive West turnoff
- Shift to the far right lane once on Marine Drive
- Take the first right onto Taylor Way
- Travel up the hill and turn left onto Highway 1
- Follow the signs and take Exit 2 (just before the ferry terminal) to Whistler Hwy 99
Highway Regulations in British Columbia
